Runners Questions
What is your running background?
Used to do mountaineering and hill walking. Tried a local 10 mile race back in 2007 (Sandstone Trail B-Race). Did about 2 races a year for a while and before I knew it I was doing 50+ races a year (I do count parkruns).
When did you first start running Ultra marathons and why?
My first Ultra was the Fellsman in 2010. I tried it as it is more of a hill walk rather than a running Ultra marathon.
When or where (at which events) are we most likely to see you?
5k to 10k events in the North West region of England.
What are your personal key running achievements to date?
I won Welsh 1000m Peaks B-Race (Mountaineering Class) in 2010 and 2011 and the E-Race (short fell race) in 2012. In Ultra-Marathons my best finish is 3rd in the Ultra-Draille 2014.
What was your hardest race experience?
I quickly forget bad running experiences, so much so that I can’t think of my hardest race experience. I did have sore feet the first two times I did the Lakeland 100, but the third time I had good feet and discovered that the second half of the race could actually be enjoyable.
What events do you have planned for 2015 up to Spartathlon?
Dragons Back – June 2015
Lakeland 100 – July 2015
TDS – August 2015
What is your typical race strategy for an ultra?
Hope that I run well and don’t get cramp or feel sick.
What does a typical training week look like?
Easy 10k training run or two with a race or two thrown in.
What one tip would you pass onto people running an Ultra marathon for the first time?
You will likely feel poor at some point; try to keep going and eat food regularly.
Can you tell us one interesting fact about yourself?
I won an art prize aged 7.
