Questions

What is your running background?

I have always been active with having an Army background, I passed P company at 18 years old to join the Paratroopers. Fast forward several years and 2 kids later I hadn’t run in in years and had gained a few pounds so to speak. So, 2015 I picked up the old running trainers and started doing some 5k runs to get fit, these led to 10k, then 10 miles, then half marathons etc etc…. you can see where this is going!

When did you first start running Ultra marathons and why?

2016 I was bang into the running thing, then I heard about the South Downs way 50 miler so living on the south coast on the foot of the downs I just had to give this a go and really enjoyed it…… then i heard about people who can run 100 miles!

When or where (at which events) are we most likely to see you?

This could quite literally be anywhere, I’m a sucker for a medal and T shirt. I don’t really like doing the same race too many times so am now always on the lookout for something different.

What are your personal key running achievements to date?

Oh tricky one, achieving my 5th (ish) ever parkrun the other week was quite something. Particularly proud of Lakeland 100 finish and also 2x Arc of attrition finishes (1x silver, 1x gold buckle)

What was your hardest experience?

Spartathlon DNF last year, it was a disaster

What is your typical race strategy for an ultra?

Run for as long as I can then cling on for the remainder!!!

What does a typical training week look like?

Well it’s been a tough year with trying to get over a horrible injury so now I just do what my body can tolerate. Have been doing lots of flat road running but I live on the foot of the south downs so the trails are always calling.

What one tip would you pass onto people running an Ultra marathon for the first time?

Train well and don’t overlook your nutrition.

Can you tell us one interesting fact about yourself;

I have a pair of eyes tattooed somewhere on my body that you can’t see unless you are “cheeky” and ask to see them.

645

Have you taken part in the Spartathlon before?

Yes 2022

How did you get on?

DNF

What tip would you pass on to those taking part for the first time?

Ask lots of questions from the people that know, and try not to worry too much about the things you don’t know, it all kind of just comes together when you get out there

What are you looking forward to at the Spartathlon race?

Putting right the wrongs and kissing that foot!

What are you not looking forward to during the Spartathlon race?

Being away from home.

How will you prepare specifically for the Spartathlon race?

Running more roads, some heat training if possible and planning better nutrition

Will you be bringing any support crew to the race? (If so, please introduce them briefly)

Yep, Steve is coming out again which I am so grateful for.  He is just the best crew and friend, he has crewed me loads of times before and probably knows better what I need than I do.
