Runners Questions

What is your running background?

I did a 10k for charity with girls at work in 2004 love it and carried on to do half marathons and marathons. I then moved to Ultra’s in 2008

 

When did you first start running Ultra marathons and why?

In 2007 my best mate, Debbie Martin-Consani, decided to do the West Highland Way Race in 2008 and I can’t see anything go past me!!!

 

When or where (at which events) are we most likely to see you?

Generally I like races with a few hills and a bit of scenery but have also been know to do a few looped and road events.

 

What are your personal key running achievements to date?

Getting European Bronze medal whilst representing Great Britain at the 2013 World and European 24 hour Championship.

 

What was your hardest race experience?

My first 24 hour race at the Commonwealth in 2011. 206k around a 1k loop. Met some great people which made it possible to keep going.

 

What events do you have planned for 2015 up to Spartathlon?

World and European 24 hour Championship – 11/12 April 2015

St Cutherbert’s Way – 11 July 2015

 

What is your typical race strategy for an ultra?

Start steady, stay strong!

 

What does a typical training week look like?

I average about 80 miles per week and enjoy a variety of cross training, swimming 4 times per week and functional fitness two to three times a week.

 

What one tip would you pass onto people running an Ultra marathon for the first time?

Never think past the first check point.

 

Can you tell us one interesting fact about yourself?

They call me the Gibbering Midget – and I have no idea why!!!

Spartathlon Questions

Have you taken part in the Spartathlon before?

No.

 

What are you looking forward to at the Spartathlon race?

The race ambiance, the crowds, the finish, the after party – everything!

 

What are you not looking forward to during the Spartathlon race?

The heat.

 

How will you prepare specifically for the Spartathlon race?

On the back of 24 hour road training. I will also need to look at the climate conditions and consider salt intake, hydration and staying cool.

 

Will you be bringing any support crew to the race?

No. But my best friend will also be running – Pat Robbins and Debbie Martin Consani. Also Marco Consani will be out there supporting.
