Runners Questions

What is your running background? I finished last year…didn’t you see the video?

When did you first start running Ultra marathons and why? I was too slow at marathons.

When or where (at which events) are we most likely to see you? Spartathlon, a Cockbain event

What are your personal key running achievements to date? C2C, Ultrabalathon, Sparathalon and nearly going under 4hours on 50km

What was your hardest race experience? Spartathlon 2013

What events do you have planned for 2015 up to Spartathlon? 2 x 50km Jan-Mar, 24 Hour Basel May, Leipzig 100km August

What is your typical race strategy for an ultra? Steady even pace

What does a typical training week look like? Monday 10km + 10*30 second intervals, Tuesday AM Hills PM 15km, Wednesday AM Intervals 8*2minutes PM 10km + 1km swim, Thursday AM Hills PM 15km, Friday AM Intervals 4*1km,
Saturday Rory, Sunday 1km Swim. I am using a bin bag to simulate heat and a seven kilo jacket to strengthen the muscles.

What one tip would you pass onto people running an Ultra marathon for the first time? Eat, fueling for that long and going that fast is very important.

Spartathlon Questions

Have you taken part in the Spartathlon before? Yes, currently it is 3-1 to Spartathlon. Gerrard has just scored… I am going for the Smicer goal now.

How did you get on? 2012 70km Didn’t have a clue, 2013 140km should have finished wasn’t mentally strong enough, 2014 130km cool weather and over confident, didn’t improve. I was a complete idiot. 2015 Finished in 34:45

What tip would you pass on to those taking part for the first time? It is harder than you think

What are you looking forward to at the Spartathlon race? Finishing faster than Smuggy

What are you not looking forward to during the Spartathlon race? Nothing

How will you prepare specifically for the Spartathlon race? Lose weight gain speed

Will you be bringing any support crew to the race? Yes, Nick Papageorge, who was on the original race with John Foden.
