The team is a good blend of experienced and new runners. We are excited to see two brilliant females in this years squad and are committed to looking at ways to increase the inclusion, participation and representation from all groups in the coming years.

Returning to Greece is Spartathlon, Team GB and Ultra Legend Ali Young.

Ali came fourth last year in an impressive sub 29 hours. Exciting to see what magic Alec can sprinkle this year.

We love introducing runners who we know have had a Spartathlon flame burning inside for many years.

Meet Lyndon a well loved runner (someone who prolifically supports other ultra runners through crewing/pacing too) who gets to experience Spartathlon for the first time this year. Seen here in this years Mozart by UTMB series – we wish Lyndon every bit of success.

Please welcome Team Captain and British Team Management Lead Ian Thomas.

Ian is about to start an extraordinary season with both Badwater 135 and Spartathlon on the cards. Ian now has 7 official (eight unofficial) finishes and is high up the all-time list

Alongside Ian we have many multiple finisher legends:

James Ellis – Five

Al Higgins – Three

Darren Strachan – Three

Ali Young – Two

David Barker – Two

BRITISH SPARTATHLON TEAM STATUS UPDATE:

As many of you will know one of the main purposes of this group is to seek sponsorship so that we can arrange for a glorious team kit. Over the years we have built a strong team bond which has helped many crewed and uncrewed athletes achieve their Spartathlon dreams.

We have also inspired other countries with our team approach – our website is full of useful information that is accessible to every runner from around the world.

In our recent history there has been a challenge to get the right sponsors and the sponsorship to allow us to do what we have wanted to do and one of the blockers always seemed to be our lack of status.

So for 2023 we are excited and proud to announce that we are now a CIC – Community Interest Company. The management team will continue to pursue ways in which we can support runners from all backgrounds in Spartathlon and we are excited about some of the new partnerships being explored to make this happen.

2023 TEAM SPONSORS:

None of the website, the team kit and much more would happen if it weren’t for the kind support of our sponsors each year. We are grateful to the current (and wonderful past) team members who approached sponsors.

We are delighted to welcome Pura who are our main sponsor for 2023. As well as ensuring that we could organise full team and crew kit for another year they have also supplied team members with some product to test.

In addition we are delighted to welcome onto the sponsorship team Avani Solutions. Amanda and Michael will be personally back for the third year in a row (having crewed Andy Daysey Day and Gabriel Flores) to crew Stevie Gordon. Michael has been inspired himself and this year was on the starting line of the 145 mile GUCR ultra. Surely a future Spartathlon beckons.

We also welcome back long time supporters Track Trail, Camino Ultra and for this year Run Grateful
